Design + Change | 8 Design Principles for Organizational Transformation

What happens when the worlds of design and change management collide? We’ll begin by sharing a synthesis of the design principles being developed in this emerging area through a project called Change DNA. We will explore case studies of how these principles are disrupting traditionally-held tenets of change management. This is the perfect session for participants experiencing a change effort that is stuck - bring your real-life example and we will apply the 8 principles in a hands-on, team-based solutioning workshop.

About the Speakers:

Aric Wood
CEO, XPLANE

XPLANE leverages visual thinking, human-centered design, co-creation, and multi-disciplinary teams to help clients solve complex problems and accelerate results. With experience in general management, innovation, and new product development, Aric has a keen interest in leveraging design thinking to identify opportunities and drive innovation, and is active in the firm’s Change Management and Service Design practices. He also leads XPLANE’s Social Good practice, which provides pro-bono support for non-profit organizations driving transformational change. Aric has appeared in publications and broadcasts including CNN, Business Week, and Inc. Magazine. Aric previously served in leadership roles at Intuit and Epinions.com, and as a strategy consultant at Bain & Company. Aric earned a bachelor’s degree in International Relations from The Johns Hopkins University and an MBA from Harvard Business School. Aric serves on a number of for-profit and non-profit boards, including the Design Museum Foundation, MusicXray.com, and as the Chairman of the Board of Governors of Pacific Northwest College of Art (PNCA).

Stephanie Gioia

Stephanie Gioia is Director of Consulting at XPLANE, a Portland-based Business Design Consultancy that helps large organizations clarify, communicate, and achieve their goals. Prior to XPLANE, Stephanie worked with IDEO envisioning the future of design consulting and in change, process and organizational design roles in the financial services and energy industries. Stephanie holds a BA in history and government from Georgetown University and MBA from the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan.

About the Speakers:

Parker Lee
President, XPLANE

Lee is president of XPLANE and has been actively “designing” organizations for better performance and empowering change makers since the 70s. During the “dot com” era, Lee acted as vice president of business development for four pre-IPO technology companies. Among his career stints, Lee pioneered the use of social media for use in communications for the California State Democratic Party during the 2004 election. Lee is a graduate of UC Davis in Organizational Development.

Drew Mattison
Vice President, XPLANE

Drew is an engineer and visual designer by education and has an MBA. He has lead the support of change initiatives at P&G, UPS, HP, and others. His work at the intersection of design, business, and transformation make him a trusted leader in the visual design and change space.
